about me

Practically imperfect in every way. Start with a lot of silliness. Mix in some insecurities and a handful of awkwardness. Add a pound of naivety, innocence, and child-like wonderings. Blend well. Half-bake and top off with a sprinkle of imagination and dollop of dreams. It’s the recipe for me!

quote of the day

  • "Moral of the story: Do not look at the gap. The gap is the mind-killer. Remember how Wile E. Coyote never fell down until he saw the chasm? It’s just like that." --Taylor "Tei" Lindstrom, Rogue Ink

dumbass quote

  • "I think we have come to find out that the Education system, run by Liberal Hippies that really couldn't find any other job that allowed them so much time off, the ability to do drugs, and to spout their rhetoric is alive and well. It is teaching out kids things like 'Abortion is Good,' 'Government is Bad.' We have educators that, for the most part, don't teach to the subject, they teach to their beliefs. It is really sad, and even sadder when you see highly intelligent children buying into it." --Kelli

What a week! And it’s only Wednesday!

September 1, 2004

It started on Monday when the boys’ first day of school was postponed.

On Tuesday, it continued. My computer has been acting up a bit lately, so I took it in to the Apple Store to have it checked out. The news was bad, and the decision was made to get a new computer. Admittedly, part of me is very happy that I’m getting a new computer. I tend to get attached to my things though, so I’m having a hard time accepting that this iMac which has been so good to me is on its way out. (Mike, if you’re reading this, I’m not trying to rub it in, honest!)

Things started to turn around a bit today. Slowly. First, I woke up to the sound of gunshots nearby. My heart sank, and I knew what I was hearing. Hunting season for Canadian geese started today in Michigan. As the sun started to rise, I dared a peek out my window. A saw a flock of geese flying over my house, and one goose separated itself from the rest to land in a field. The thought is so disturbing to me, that I can’t continue to write about it. My dad was a hunter, so I know the hunter’s argument all too well. I still find it hard to accept.

The boys’ bus came later than expected. They were picked up at 8:15. I was supposed to start class at 9:00. Have I mentioned that my school is over 50 miles away from my house? Obviously, I didn’t make it on time. And anyone who is familiar with EMU’s campus knows just how wonderful the parking situation is there. Thankfully, I have a very forgiving ceramics professor.

It was strange working with clay again after so long. I thought it would come back to me easily, but that wasn’t the case. I felt like a complete novice learning from scratch. I did manage to nearly complete one project, but overall I had very little success this morning. But I can hardly complain when I was PLAYING WITH CLAY.

The two hours between classes consisted of running around for my student ID and parking permit. It took less time than I expected, so I was able to lay on the grass beneath a huge shade tree and enjoy the perfect weather we had this afternoon.

Then I had my second class. Long story short, I needed an override, and I got one. Yay for me and my persistence and lack of shame to use my “I drive 50 miles to get here, and I have twin boys so feel sorry for me!” story.

I’m feeling very good about my decision to go back to EMU right now. I shouldn’t have to deny myself the things that bring me happiness, as long as there are no negative consequences for others, right?

Tomorrow morning at 10:30 I will be on a plane bound for Atlanta for GeekAndDork Fest. I can’t say whether or not my geeky activities will allow for blogging this weekend, so I’ll see ya when I see ya!

Sounds like a crazy week. Congrats on the over ride, I know those can be hard to get sometimes. and as far as parking at EMU, I grew up in Ypsi and my parents teach at EMU so I know all about it… luckily for them, they live close by and try to walk to work as much as possible. I’m so jealous that you get to “play with clay”!

Did you know that those geese are actually called Canada geese? Isn’t that weird? Like EVERYONE, I’ve always called them Canadian geese. Then my grandfather said, “You know, those geese are actually called Canada geese.” I looked at him like he was a crazy person. Then I looked it up and voila! The old bastard was right. They ARE called Canada geese. Weird. But I’ve already mentioned that.

I would say that you and I are above average in the looks department, and yet we share this interest and shower regularly. It’s an anomoly of geekdom. :) Have fun!

It’s the spark of an idea that hits me unexpectedly. It’s the silly wonderings I have after a whirlwind of thoughts. It’s about creativity, inspiration, and imagination. But sometimes, it’s just about eating noodles.
