Practically imperfect in every way. Start with a lot of silliness. Mix in some insecurities and a handful of awkwardness. Add a pound of naivety, innocence, and child-like wonderings. Blend well. Half-bake and top off with a sprinkle of imagination and dollop of dreams. It’s the recipe for me!

"I think we have come to find out that the Education system, run by Liberal Hippies that really couldn't find any other job that allowed them so much time off, the ability to do drugs, and to spout their rhetoric is alive and well. It is teaching out kids things like 'Abortion is Good,' 'Government is Bad.' We have educators that, for the most part, don't teach to the subject, they teach to their beliefs. It is really sad, and even sadder when you see highly intelligent children buying into it." --Kelli

I make stuff. I’ve always made stuff. When I was little and I complained about being bored, my mom would tell me to play outside or something. I didn’t want to play outside, though. I wanted to make stuff. What stuff? It didn’t really matter. Just… stuff.
As an adult, things are pretty much the same. I love buying cheap tables and bookshelfs because I love putting them together. I use the holidays as an excuse to make stuff too. That way, I can fulfill my urge to create without getting stuck with more stuff. Then there were all those art classes. So many art classes. I’m really more of a process person than a product person, so art classes were perfect. I was able to make stuff just for the sake of making stuff. I kept some of it. I threw some of it in the garbage. The important thing is that I got to make stuff.
When I finally decided to finish my degree in art, I told myself that I didn’t necessarily need to make a career out of making stuff. The more I search for jobs though, the more I realize I SHOULD be making a career out of making stuff. And I WANT to make a career out of making stuff. Because that’s what I do. I make stuff.
But how do I make a career out of making stuff? I’ve had more than a few jobs where I got to make stuff. They were my favorite jobs. They’re not the kind of jobs that would cover the cost for me to go back to work though.
Then there’s the selling stuff I make. I’ve tried that a few times, but it’s never good enough, you know? I mean, if I can make it, so can someone else. And then it’s not really that special, is it? And that’s my dilemma.
For now, I’ll have to settle for all the fun stuff I get to make for my sister’s upcoming wedding and shower.
I’ve been wondering what happened to your online store. Did you decide it was too much work and/or to hard to market?
great….
Oh, the online store. I was working with a company to set my store up using oscommerce. I was disappointed with the results. I then decided to do it myself using the PayPal shopping cart I had been using before. But then I was too busy with school, then the holidays, yadda, yadda, yadda.
I’m still making jewelry. But with so many other online stores and so many other jewelry artists out there now it just doesn’t feel special, you know? Everyone makes jewelry. I haven’t given up completely, though. I’m experimenting with a few new ideas to try to find something that is special and that will stand out from the rest. And then? Then we’ll see.
It is GREAT to have a friend like you when baby and wedding showers roll around. I wish I had that talent. The creatively inclined friend at these things always gets the oohs and aahs.:)
What if you become an art teacher for the summer and have people pay for “Make Stuff” classes. Judging by the pictures I’ve seen of your art, I think it would be a real shame to not share your gift with others.
P.S. I love making stuff with old bookcases and tables. I bought this small, red, round kid table at Target the other day for $15 bucks and I’m thinking of painting it all white with a orange slice on top. What do you think?
Janet, I rarely give my handmade things as gifts to anyone outside my immediate family because I’m never sure they’re good enough. I’m throwing my sister’s bridal shower in April though, so I’ll get my fill of making stuff for that, I’m sure.
D.T., I think the orange slice table idea is totally cute! I find 2-D design intimidating, so I envy people who can just paint stuff out of their head.
My Bad…….so sorry the making stuff party didn’t go as planned. The stuff you made turned out wonderfully and the rest of the flowers will be in soon to finish. Let me know when you are available. Can’t wait for the shower I know it is going to be spectacular. love ya.

It’s the spark of an idea that hits me unexpectedly. It’s the silly wonderings I have after a whirlwind of thoughts. It’s about creativity, inspiration, and imagination. But sometimes, it’s just about eating noodles.
