about me

Practically imperfect in every way. Start with a lot of silliness. Mix in some insecurities and a handful of awkwardness. Add a pound of naivety, innocence, and child-like wonderings. Blend well. Half-bake and top off with a sprinkle of imagination and dollop of dreams. It’s the recipe for me!

quote of the day

  • "Moral of the story: Do not look at the gap. The gap is the mind-killer. Remember how Wile E. Coyote never fell down until he saw the chasm? It’s just like that." --Taylor "Tei" Lindstrom, Rogue Ink

dumbass quote

  • "I think we have come to find out that the Education system, run by Liberal Hippies that really couldn't find any other job that allowed them so much time off, the ability to do drugs, and to spout their rhetoric is alive and well. It is teaching out kids things like 'Abortion is Good,' 'Government is Bad.' We have educators that, for the most part, don't teach to the subject, they teach to their beliefs. It is really sad, and even sadder when you see highly intelligent children buying into it." --Kelli

Celebrate Independents Week July 1-7

July 1, 2006

Since getting serious about my jewelry business this year, I’ve been doing my best to support other indie businesses whenever possible. I grew up in a very small rural town, and we make our home in a small town now. Our local indie businesses struggle to compete with the big guys. I’d like to encourage everyone to make a special effort, for at least this one week, to support their own local indie businesses.

You can take the Indie Challenge — use Independents Week to explore your community’s independently-owned businesses [and] see how much of your purchasing for that week you can do with them. You’ll keep your money circulating in your community three times as long or more than spending it at chains where it leaves immediately for somewhere else. Every dollar you spend at a locally-owned business helps your community in many ways.

I struggle a lot with this issue. I want to support the little guy, but it’s difficult when the bigger guy offers the same (or similar) product for significantly less. Sometimes my desire to support an indepedent wins. Sometimes, my desire to support my bank account wins….

I struggle with this issue too. Often, the big guy has the better selection at a much lower price. Wal-Mart is the one place I refuse to shop, though I couldn’t really argue when my mom recently bought new bikes for the boys’ birthday at 50% less than the same bikes she found elsewhere.

I’m finding it easier to support the indies for special products or services. Also, our local grocer happens to be a giant in this area, so it’s easy to support them when they have a better selection than our Farmer Jack.

about this blog

It’s the spark of an idea that hits me unexpectedly. It’s the silly wonderings I have after a whirlwind of thoughts. It’s about creativity, inspiration, and imagination. But sometimes, it’s just about eating noodles.
